From the initial concept of machine learning to today’s powerful deep learning algorithms, the development of artificial intelligence has been constantly evolving, constantly promoting the advancement of technology and society. The continuation of this history will determine the future direction and shape our lifestyle and social structure.

However, the controversy surrounding Google DeepMind’s deal with the NHS highlights the complex ethical landscape that creates tensions between innovation and patient privacy (Crawford, 2021, pp. 1-21). DeepMind’s access to healthcare data was found to be well beyond what was necessary for application testing, an incident that is a stark reminder that with innovation comes the potential for overdoing it.
Man is a product of his environment. Education is closely related to our lives. Different growth environments and the ideas we accept will shape our future. And adaptive learning platforms, such as Carnegie Learning’s, seek to tailor the educational experience to students’ individual needs. Safiya Umoja Noble’s research in “Algorithms of Oppression” (2018) reveals how these same algorithms perpetuate social biases and widen educational gaps (Noble, 2018, pp. 15-63). Education is the source, and naturally the differences in cognition will be greater. It cannot be said to be narrow-minded, but it may not be inclusive enough. Standardized testing software has a tendency to intentionally, or unintentionally, bias students from certain backgrounds, widening educational gaps that might otherwise be closing.Therefore, platform regulation plays a vital role in fostering a fair and inclusive online learning environment.
News itself has a certain degree of bias, especially the connection between the story itself and the storyteller is one thing, and how the story is understood is another. Thanks to today’s highly developed media ecosystem, especially social media platforms like Facebook, which are heavily influenced by artificial intelligence algorithms that filter and prioritize news content. As Pasquale puts it in Black Box Society (2015), these can create “filter bubbles” in which users are presented with a narrow view of reality that is inherently subjective, and people I am more willing to see what I want to see, so that the gap between the same things in the eyes of different people may become wider and wider. Additionally, potential hacking or malfunctions within AI systems add another layer of risk. Relying on complex algorithms and data inputs to make decisions in chaotic and unpredictable environments such as battlefields is inherently prone to errors, leading to catastrophic consequences. Therefore, supervision and intervention must precede development, but it would be great if there were no wars.
The major changes brought about by AI have reshaped our world. Although its development history is only seventy years ago, we should realize that we are in the early stages of this historical era. The rapid development of this technology in recent years often makes us overlook the fact that these seemingly huge innovations are just the beginning.
Although artificial intelligence has a relatively short history, it has already transformed our perceptions, knowledge, and behavior. There are no signs that these trends will stabilize anytime soon. On the contrary, especially in the past decade, the development of computers and networks has led to the vast collection and application of data. Artificial intelligence technology is rapidly gaining unprecedented attention, with each passing year getting better and better.
All major technological advances bring positive and negative consequences, and AI is no exception. So while innovating,by establishing effective regulatory mechanisms, ensuring that technological advancements align with ethical standards and societal needs for sustainable development.
